The Society for Vascular Surgery and the Academy for Surgical Coaching have partnered to offer coaching to vascular surgeons. The Vascular Surgical Coaching program is a unique opportunity to make meaningful improvements to your vascular surgery practice by working with a Surgical Coach. You can improve your skills, decision-making, teamwork and self-awareness over a 3-month program.

In the SVS surgical coaching program, you will be paired with a Surgical Coach, and virtually meet 4 times over 3 months for about an hour. Over that time, you set a goal and create a plan to achieve it. Your Surgical Coach will help:

  • Build a meaningful relationship with your Surgical Coach,
  • Take on problems causing frustration and delay in the operating room,
  • Give you expert, personalized feedback on your technique,
  • Creatively brainstorm and implement new ways of doing procedures, and
  • Keep yourself accountable to making change.

Surgeon Wellness

This Surgical Coaching program is being offered through the SVS Wellness Committee. Surgical Coaching can help improve your wellness through:

  • Conversations with a colleague who can listen to you and ask good questions.
  • Building a sense of control over your practice.
  • Working through problems in the OR.
  • Stepping back, slowing down and being more thoughtful about your practice.
  • Growing personal mastery.

All of your conversations with your Surgical Coach are private and confidential.

Surgical Coaches

Surgical coaches are practicing surgeons who have received additional training on coaching principles. They serve as your “guide on the side” as you fulfill your practice goals. These vascular surgeons have participated in SVS-sponsored Surgical Coach Training and are available to work with program participants.
